EtherNet/IP Interoperability Test Procedures

Pub 95

This document identifies test procedures for interoperability testing of EtherNet/IP devices. The test procedures are derived from a series of documents that have been produced by ODVA and the North American EtherNet/IP Implementors Workshop.

This document is one of a set of documents that will lay out the test plans, procedures, and logistics for performing interoperability testing on EtherNet/IP devices. This document consists of a specific set of test procedures that describe the way to per form interoperability testing for EtherNet/IP devices. Other documents may describe the specific way in which the tests will be conducted at a particular event. Test results will be recorded in a test results document that will be provided only to the vendor. If the product has a valid Declaration of Conformance (DoC), upon successfully completing the advisory test followed by PlugFest Completion at a TSP, the product’s DoC will be updated to indicate that it has passed the Advisory Test for EtherNet/IP Interoperability. Devices that do not have a valid Declaration of Conformance may use the Interoperability Advisory Test results in the future (within 6 months of completing the Interoperability Advisory test) if the same device revision passes the ODVA Conformance and PlugFest Completion tests at a TSP.

Guidelines for Using Device Level Ring (DLR) with EtherNet/IP

Pub 316

Ethernet is growing in popularity across all levels of enterprise including industrial processes and applications. There are a variety of Industrial applications in which Ethernet ring topologies are preferable to the star topologies common in enterprise networks. Ring networks provide inherent single-point fault tolerance. Ring nodes that include embedded switch technology reduce the need for infrastructure switches and simplify network cabling. Device Level Ring (DLR) protocol provides a means for detecting, managing and recovering from faults in a ring-based network.

Implementation of DLR imposes certain requirements upon the supporting network infrastructure. DLR does not inherently exclude the use of devices which do not support the DLR protocol in a DLR-enabled network. It is expected that legacy devices and other considerations will frequently dictate the use of such devices in a DLR network. However, the use of these devices in a DLR network may significantly affect DLR operation and performance. This whitepaper is intended to provide an overview of DLR and to provide guidelines for implementing a DLR network comprised of DLR devices and devices which do not support the DLR protocol.

Optimization of Process Integration

Pub 286

In this white paper, ODVA describes the opportunity for the optimization of process integration (OPI™) and an overview of its vision for a comprehensive approach to OPI including:

  • OPI in the industrial ecosystem
  • ODVA’s vision of OPI in the production domain
  • Industrial use cases for OPI
  • ODVA’s technical approach to OPI
  • OPI in practice

The audience for this paper includes business and technical leaders in process industries who are seeking to define their future network architecture and product managers at automation product vendors who are seeking to map out the product roadmaps to support applications in the process industries.
