Innovation to play a major role in accelerating use of EtherNet/IP in process automation and instrumentation

Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA — April 23, 2018 — ODVA, one of the world’s leading standards development and trade organizations for information and communication technologies used in industrial automation, announced that it will return to ACHEMA in 2018 with an EtherNet/IP-focused exhibit with working demonstrations of emerging technologies and standards for Ethernet in the process industry generally and use cases for EtherNet/IP™ in specific. The exhibit will highlight changes in Ethernet and EtherNet/IP that foreshadow the coming shift in process automation and instrumentation toward open, standards-based interoperable Ethernet systems.

At ACHEMA, ODVA will showcase an open, interoperable and secure EtherNet/IP network architecture for the process industry. Reflecting the results of ODVA’s initiative for the Optimization of Process Integration (OPI), the exhibit will demonstrate a transparent and robust communication between controllers, field devices and asset management systems. Visitors to the ODVA exhibit will see live demonstrations of NAMUR NE107 diagnostics, HART integration with EtherNet/IP systems, long-reach Ethernet for process field devices located in hazardous locations, and the benefits of EtherNet/IP’s routing capabilities for seamless exchange of data to, and from, field devices.

“The process industry is at a tipping point where field deployment of industrial Ethernet, whether natively or through integration of traditional fieldbus, is no longer a dream,” said Katherine Voss, ODVA president. “By the time stakeholders in the process industry return to ACHEMA 2021, users in the process industry will find a wide of EtherNet/IP products available for process automation and instrumentation including the first EtherNet/IP field devices for use in hazard locations.”

ACHEMA 2018 will convene 11-15 June 2018. ODVA’s exhibit will be located in Hall 11.0, Stand A41. In addition, ODVA, Fieldcomm Group and Profibus and Profinet International (PI) will hold a joint press conference on Tuesday, 12 June 2018 at 15:00 in Hall 11, Room Granat to provide an update on their joint cooperation to promote development and adoption of a long-reach, single pair Ethernet for process field devices located in hazardous locations.

About ODVA
Founded in 1995, ODVA is an international standards development and trade organization whose members comprise the world’s leading automation companies. ODVA’s mission is to advance open, interoperable information and communication technologies in industrial automation. ODVA recognizes its media independent network protocol, the Common Industrial Protocol or “CIP” – and the network adaptations of CIP – EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, CompoNet and ControlNet – as its core technology and the primary common interest of its membership. ODVA’s vision is to contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of the global community by transforming the model for information and communication technology in the industrial ecosystem. For future interoperability of production systems and the integration of the production systems with other systems, ODVA embraces the adoption of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and standard, unmodified Internet and Ethernet technologies as a guiding principle wherever possible. This principle is exemplified by EtherNet/IP – the world’s number one industrial Ethernet network.
