CIP Safety

An Integrated Solution for Safety-Critical and Standard Control

CIP Safety allows safety devices to coexist with standard control devices on the same CIP Network, either with or without a Safety PLC. In this environment, safety sensors can operate alongside variable speed drives, safety controllers with standard PLCs and proximity switches. No matter what combination of devices is used, the integrity of the safety control loop cannot be affected by any of the standard control devices.

Protect Your Investment

CIP Safety lets you automate safety in your plant using the same network that is used for the standard control, resulting in reduced engineering, installation and training costs; improved diagnostics, and increased architectural flexibility.

  • Ease of installation
  • Reduced costs
  • Distributed safety functions
  • Advanced diagnostics
  • Hot device replacement
  • Inherited bridging and routing capabilities
  • Virtually unlimited maximum safety device count with CIP’s multi-link network architecture
  • Certified Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 according to IEC 61508 standard.
  • EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet or any future CIP networks supported

CIP Safety’s end-to-end protocol gives responsibility to ensuring safety to the end nodes—rather than the bridges, routers, or intermediate nodes. This design ensures that standard, easy-to-configure communication devices can be used in place of costly, maintenance-intensive safety certified gateways, thus reducing installation, training, and maintenance time. Scalable integration of multiple network safety segments results in shorter loop closure times and tighter safety exclusion zones.
