FlexEx™ Intrinsically Safe I/O
Rockwell Automation's approach to Class I Division I or Zone 1 applications is to eliminate stand-alone IS barriers/isolators and separate control and process by certifying the entire FlexEx system as intrinsically safe.
The FlexEx system can be mounted directly on controlled equipment in a hazardous area or distributed throughout the hazardous area at significant savings to you. Single or redundant fiber media provides the communication with the ControlNet network. This intrinsically safe line of I/O offers analog, discrete and specialty module options for various hazardous applications.
Features Include:
- Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature-reduces commissioning time and reduced downtime associated with maintenance
- Integrated galvanic isolation barriers eliminate IS ground requirements to reduce retrofit and green-field installation costs
- Elimination of wiring from the control room to the field mounted junction boxes
- Elimination of terminal blocks, barriers, and fuses
- More simple architecture
- Standard enclosures vs. explosion-proof enclosures
