  1. Introduction
The value of ODVA identity elements depends on the uniformity and correctness of their application by all parties who use them. The guidelines described herein are to be followed by all parties who have been authorized by ODVA to use some or all of the identity elements described herein.
 
The right to use the ODVA trademarks described herein is strictly controlled by ODVA through written agreement. If you desire to use any of these ODVA trademarks and do not have a written authorization from ODVA to do so, contact ODVA to request authorization for the intended use. These requests are to be send via email to odva@odva.org.
 
  1. Association and Technology Trademarks
    1. Logo Specifications
The association and technology logos include logos representing the name of the association, ODVA, and of the technologies it supports, such as DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, CompoNet, CIP Motion, CIP Sync, and CIP Safety. For association and technology logos, please email odva@odva.org.  
 
The association and technology logos are two-color. When Pantone colors can be specified, please use Pantone 072 and 142. When Pantone colors cannot be specified, use the four-color process colors - noted as CMYK. Different printing systems may require different color specifications. See the following for details.

When printing on uncoated stocks (noted by printers as CVU) such as business cards, letterhead and envelopes, versus coated stocks (noted as CVC), use PMS 129U for the yellow portion of the logo. For anything electronic, use 142 C or the CMYK equivalent.
 
If possible, two-color logotype should be used at all times. As some processes cannot reproduce a graduated screen, a solid version in the ODVA blue may be used for special applications such as silkscreen printing.
 
If color is not available, the association and technology logos may be reproduced in solid black with the globe in gradation of 55% black. These “black and white” versions are also available for download through the links above. Please ensure that there is sufficient contrast between the logo and background color.
 
    1. Rules for Use
                                                              i.      Authorization for use of the technology logos is granted through ODVA’s Terms of Usage Agreements. Please contact ODVA for more information.
 
                                                             ii.      Setting Trademarks Apart from Modifiers
Set trademarks apart from other words or the nouns they modify. The common way to do this is to properly capitalize the product name and designate the trademarks with the appropriate symbol - e.g., TM.
 
Correct:
√         By installing DeviceNet™ on the plant floor…
 
Incorrect:
Χ          By installing devicenet on the plant floor…
 
                                                           iii.      Third Party Combinations
ODVA does not allow the combination of an ODVA trademark to create a third part trademark; for example, it is acceptable to use "DeviceNet™ Smart I/O" where DeviceNet is credited as a trademark of ODVA. It is not acceptable to use "DeviceNet Smart I/O™" where "DeviceNet Smart I/O” is credited as a trademark of your company or business unit. Other examples of correct and incorrect usage of ODVA trademarks in written materials are shown below:

                                                          iv.      Possessive and Plural Forms
Do not use trademarks in the possessive or plural form.
 
Correct:

                                                            v.      Symbols and Attribution
Use the appropriate trademark symbol in the proper place and give proper attribution.
 
Correct:
√         CompoNet™, DeviceNet™, CIP™, CIP Safety™, CIP Sync™, CIP Motion™, DeviceNet Safety™ and EtherNet/IP Safety™ are trademarks of ODVA.
√         EtherNet/IP™ is a trademark used under license by ODVA.
           
Incorrect:
Χ          DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP are trademarks of XYZ Company.
 
                                                          vi.      Abbreviations and Acronyms
Do not shorten, abbreviate or create acronyms out of ODVA trademarks.
 
Correct:
√         This product works with EtherNet/IP™ and DeviceNet™
 
Incorrect:
Χ          This product works with EIP and DNet.  
 
                                                         vii.      ODVA Tagline
The preferred company signature consists of the ODVA logotype and "Networks Built on a Common Industrial Protocol" tag line. These elements are used in a horizontal configuration. The tag line is set in Sari font and is positioned below the ODVA logotype. The tag line must always appear in the same color as the word ODVA. The tag line may be removed when its inclusion creates inordinate cost or complexity. The words "Common Industrial Protocol" are not to be translated into local language.
 
                                                       viii.      Meaning and Usage of CIP™ Brand Name
The CIP brand name is designated to mean “Common Industrial Protocol.” This definition reflects an evolution in the CIP value proposition that is consistent with CIP’s historical use in past ODVA communications, while more clearly communicating that CIP is “common” to all networks and designed to be an “industrial (network) protocol.” 
 
In earlier ODVA communications, CIP was defined as a “Control and Information Protocol.” It was further explained that CIP was “common” to DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP and other CIP Networks such as ControlNet™. When the brand name CIP was used, it was often referred to as “CIP Common.” ODVA materials also noted that the “IP” in the brand name “EtherNet/IP,” meant “Industrial Protocol.”
 
ODVA has converged the meaning of its brands into a consistent message and, thus, has changed the definition of the CIP brand name to be “Common Industrial Protocol.”
 
Vendors who are using "Control and Information Protocol" as the definition of the CIP brand name should immediately begin using "Common Industrial Protocol" in new communication materials and eliminate its usage in pre-existing materials at the earliest possible opportunity. 

Vendors should also refrain from using the phrase “CIP Common,” as it is redundant under the new definition.

CONFORMANCE TESTED logos should always be reproduced in black and white.
 
    1. Rules for Use
The right to use ODVA's CONFORMANCE TESTED certification marks on products themselves and/or in written materials describing products is granted only to specific products only when all of the following conditions have been met: 1) the vendor of the product has a valid Terms of Usage Agreement from ODVA for the technology, 2) the specific product has passed ODVA conformance tested at an ODVA-authorized Test Service Provider (TSP), 3) the specific product has received a Declaration of Conformity from ODVA, and 4) the Declaration of Conformity for the specific product is being maintained as required by the Terms of Usage Agreement and the conformance testing policies and guidelines as published by ODVA.
 
Only the CIP Safety CONFORMANCE TESTED™ certification mark is to be used at all times with CIP Safety on DeviceNet or CIP Safety on EtherNet/IP-compliant devices that have met all of the conditions in paragraph 1 above. The CIP Safety CONFORMANCE TESTED™ certification marks are not to be used in conjunction with the DeviceNet CONFORMANCE TESTED™ or EtherNet/IP CONFORMANCE TESTED™ certification marks either on products or in written materials describing products.
 
Use the appropriate trademark symbol in the proper place and give proper attribution.
 
Correct:
√         DeviceNet CONFORMANCE TESTED® is a registered certification mark of ODVA.
√         EtherNet/IP CONFORMANCE TESTED™ is a certification mark of ODVA.
√         CIP Safety CONFORMANCE TESTED™ is a trademark of ODVA.

Promotional logos should be printed using a full color process.
 
    1. Rules for Use
The CIP Conformity Club (or “C3”) recognizes ODVA Members who have demonstrated a commitment to the conformance testing of their CIP Networks products.   Only ODVA Members in good standing who have received notification of induction into the CIP Conformity Club may use the C3 logo in their promotional materials and web sites. For more information on the CIP Conformity Club, please click here.
 
  1. Use of Previous ODVA Logos Not Included Herein
Previous ODVA logos not in these identity guidelines must not be used on any new materials or products. ODVA requests that the use of these logos be eliminated and replaced with the new logos immediately.
 
  1. Additional Guidelines for All ODVA Trademarks and Logos
    1. Alteration of the Logos
Alteration of any ODVA logo is prohibited. This includes any changes to add additional text, adjust ratio of elements within the logo, or delete elements. Resizing to fit print needs is permitted, provided that clarity of the logo is not affected adversely. 
 
    1. International Language Standards
In order to drive a worldwide understanding of terms common to CIP Networks, ODVA would like to insure that all words, acronyms, and trademarks that are uniquely associated with CIP Networks remain in English. These include:

·            Common Industrial Protocol
·            Open DeviceNet Vendor Association, Inc.
 
    1. Trademark References
Trademarks serve to identify the source of a product. Correct use of ODVA trademarks is important to the organization. When referencing trademarks in written materials, the "TM" and "®" symbols must appear in the title and in the first reference in the body text. These symbols can be eliminated after the first mention in the body of the text. Following is a list of ODVA trademarks.

    1. Clear Space Requirements
The ODVA logotype communicates most effectively when it is not crowded or confused by other elements and has sufficient clear space around them. "Clear space" simply means keeping the area surrounding the logotype and identifier free of visual distraction and clutter. Ideally, the logotype and identifier should be staged with as much clear space as possible; minimum clear space measurements are 1/5 the width of the globe in the logo, if using Association or Technology Logos.
 
    1. Incorrect Logotype Usage
Consistency is critical to building the ODVA identity. Therefore, it is not permitted to alter the logos in any way including, but not limited to, the rearrangement of colors or use of alternate colors as described below:
 
·            Do not rearrange the colors of the logotype.
·            Do not reproduce the logotype on a textured or patterned background that impairs legibility.
·            Do not place the logotype on a background that does not provide sufficient contrast.
·            Do not substitute other colors when using the logotype.
·            Do not alter the letterforms or configuration of the logotype.
·            Do not alter the space relationship between the graphic elements in the logotype.
·            Do not separate or rearrange the graphic elements in the logotype.
 
  1. About ODVA
The "About ODVA" copy is used to provide a general, straightforward overview of the organization and technology - usually as an end cap to marketing materials, press releases, etc. Use the following copy to maintain consistency when referring to ODVA.
 
ABOUT ODVA
ODVA is an international association comprised of members from the world's leading automation companies. Collectively, ODVA and its members support network technologies based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™). These currently include the network adaptations of CIP—EtherNet/IP™, DeviceNet™ and CompoNet™—and major application extensions to CIP—CIP Safety™, CIP Motion™ and CIP Sync™. ODVA manages the development of these open technologies, and assists manufacturers and users of CIP Networks through tools, training and promotional activities.
 
In addition, ODVA offers conformance testing to help ensure that products built to its specifications operate in multi-vendor systems.
